Ahoy Mates!
A few NEW updates for the 2010 edition of [strong]NOLA Pyrate Week [/strong](March 26 thru April 4th)
We are currently working at bringing together a grand event this year, filled with loads of pyratical fun and fund raising efforts - plus our annual rebuilding in the Lower Ninth Ward.
Just to let those of you who may not know, we helped raise $10,000 in 2009 for our charities! ($8,000 went to the family of fallen NOPD Detective Tommie Felix)
Our first weekend kicks off with music, food, drink & reacquaiting everyone with mates new and old...settlin' in to the spirit of all things New Orleans!
Speaking of Pyrate bands (bands of Pyrates?!?)...
Joining us from across the pond is THE NUMBER ONE Pyrate band in the U.K - "Pyrates!" (http://pyrates.co.uk). They will be featured throughout NOLA Pyrate Week at the Funky Pirate on Bourbon St. and other venues across New Orleans!
Rumour has it our mates at NOLA Brewing (http://www.nolabrewing.com) have some plans afoot ONLY for NOLA Pyrate Week...more details to come.
The dangerously delightful Rev. Spooky LeStrange and her Billion Dollar Baby Dolls Burlesque troupe (http://www.myspace.com/billiondollarbabydolls) will be performing a Good Friday show to follow the frequently funny, always enjoyable, New Orleans Easter tradition of "Jesus Christ Superstar Karaoke" - only this year there will be Pyrates!
We have TWO PARADES to march in! Our very own Pyrate Parade through the French Quarter AND the famous Second Line Goodchildren Easter Parade...Pyrates and Bunnies and Children OH MY! Both will feature brass bands and a myriad of performers and parade Krewes.
We are currently in the works to secure a unique location for a merchant market - in close proximity to the French Quarter!
As always, volunteers, merchants and performers will receive special discounted rates on hotels - though there are other specials to be had for attendees!
We are once again working with http://LowerNine.org to help with the ongoing rebuilding of the Lower Ninth Ward community...those who helped last year found it to be a very rewarding experience.
For continuing updates please visit the website: http://nolapyrateweek.com
Lookin' for'ard to seein' all our mates and meetin' new ones at the mouth of the Mississippi...fair winds and following seas!

The Volunteer registration form is online - 3 days with our mates at lowernine.org - rebuilding homes & communities. Volunteers get extra special treatment...not to mention deepest gratitude from the families in the neighborhood!
A list o' some recommended lodgings available...with specials available if ye mention NOLA Pyrate Week (must call in). A few mates have started to takeover the unique lodgings at Schiros Balcony Guesthouse in the Marigny!
More news to come, keep a weather eye open! |

It's official (though still nailing a few boards down)... Noomoon Tribe invites NOLA Pyrate Week to invade the French Market at Dutch Alley!
Sat. Mar. 27, Sun Mar. 28 - 2010 (times TBA, but likely, noon-9pm ) FREE TO ATTEND!
There will be all manner of live performances on two stages, busking, wandering performers and lots of space for an amazing Merchant's Market!
This will also be an awareness raising event for being GREEN - especially saving the Wetlands! Or as I like to call it, WGL - Wetlands, Gators & Louisiana - because if we lose the first two, the third will already be gone!
Thanks to our good mate Dan Sheridan - the driving force behind massively creative Noomoon concepts/events events like the Land of Nod Experiment, powerful brands like Noomoon Tribe, Battle Of New Orleans, Human Clothing, managing/producing stages at Voodoo Music Fest...and more! Ye may recall Dan and his huge tent filled with artists at last season's Tommie Felix Memorial street party.
"Dutch Alley" is the riverside base of the French Market - just off Decatur St. from about St. Ann (behind Cafι du Monde) all the way over to St. Philip (Montrel's Bistro & WWOZ) - that's several city blocks! Thousands of tourists & locals pass through this area on any given day! MAP HERE Dan & Noomoon ran a very successful Land Of Nod event here just this past October to benefit the New Orleans Musicians Clinic and featured more than a dozen local bands, artists, fashion shows and more!
**Please note: There are still a couple of small points to be confirmed (Merchant related - likely a small fee for each), but that should be cleared up soon (keeping in mind Christmas is next weekend!). We should be able to accommodate up to 25 merchants, but shall be very particular (Dan will be bringing some certainly). Making yer own stuff is top o' the list. Must be Pyrate themed or Pyrate friendly. (no fairies)
Dan is already enticing/hunting for corporate sponsorship to help fund this - and with luck to spread into all of NOLA Pyrate Week - both trade offs and CASH (though difficult to find, we need to be sure Dan/Noomoon gets something for doing most of the hard work!). Looking for businesses who support "green" initiatives! One thing we could use is transport - thinking car dealer or rental company with hybrid SUVs or Passenger Vans (even Bio-Diesel) might be an opportunity for them.
Remember big sponsors get frequent mentions during media events...posters...etc. Cash sponsors get all that and RUM.
Hoist the colours...spread the word...send a message in a bottle, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, EMail, SMS, Phone Calls....

NOLA Pyrate Week is the only Pyrate event of it's kind in the world; 100% dedicated to GIVING BACK - literally rebuilding, promoting history, culture, art & education in the city we love. Run by volunteers who give of their time and talent to make it an event we can all be proud of. In 2009 we raised $10,000 (100% stayed in New Orleans) and our volunteers provided over 200 hours of physical labour rebuilding homes & communities with lowernine.org - and all of this with a working budget of...nothing! We introduced Pyrates from across the continent to the city of New Orleans - from the West Bank to the Garden District, the CBD to the Vieux Carre, the Marigny to the Ninth Ward...and even down into Jean Lafitte's Barataria!
This year...they're sailing across the ocean to join us!
Here's what we have planned thus far (there may be slight adjustments as we move forward...):
Fri. Mar. 26 - Pyrate Parade through the French Quarter - join the Pyrates, Krewes & bands as we officially start NOLA Pyrate Week!
Every evening at The Funky Pirate (Bourbon St.) - Pyrates! UK (the #1 Pyrate band in the UK plays throughout NOLA Pyrate Week at other venues as well)
Sat. Mar. 27 & Sun. Mar. 28. - Land of NOD Experiment (New Orleans, Louisiana) presents: "Dutch Alley Invasion" - A Wetlands awareness & fundraising event to kick off NOLA Pyrate Week - in Dutch Alley of the French Market! Support the WGL Initiative - save the Wetlands, save the Gators, save Louisiana!
March 27 & 28; noon - 9pm (free for all to attend)
- Music, Art, Film, Fashion Shows, Performance - Pyrate themed merchants & activities - Interactive art exhibits - Wetlands preservation speakers and exhibits
http://LandofNodExperiment.com
Mon. Mar. 29 (2pm) - tour Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World with Pyrates (reserve online at http://nolapyrateweek.com)
Tues. Mar. 30, Wed. Mar. 31, Thurs. April. 1 (9am-5pm) - volunteers help rebuild with lowernine.org (signup online at http://nolapyrateweek.com)
Fri. Apr. 2 The Hi Ho Lounge (9pm -?) - Pyrates join the Goodchildren Social Aid & Pleasure Club annual fundraiser and "Jesus Christ Superstar Karaoke". Midnight burlesque performance with Rev. Spooky LeStrange & Her Billion Dollar Baby Dolls!
Sat. Apr. 3 The Avenue Pub (8pm - ?) - Pyrate Pub Party & Rum Tasting on the balcony! Live music with Pyrates! UK
Sun. Apr. 4 Marigny/St. Claude Ave. (afternoon TBA) - Pyrates join the legendary Goodchildren Carnival Club Easter Parade, along with many bunnies, strollers, musicians, performers, artists...and children!
Sun. Apr. 4 One Eyed Jacks (8pm & 10pm) - Fleur De Tease presents "Alice In Burlesqueland", special ticket discounts for Pyrates |

| Thanks for the update. Sounds like the area is finnaly putting something together worthy of NO. I went to the first few years of PyrateCon in NO and had a blast but the events were awfull. Im tied in at Fells Point but I will treck down the NO at some point. I loved the area so much. |

We are still recruiting volunteers to help rebuild family homes & communities with lowernine.org during NOLA Pyrate Week.
To date, lowernine.org has worked on over 60 properties. 15 families have returned to homes completely rebuilt by lowernine.org and another 10 families have returned home with assistance from us a total of 75 residents of the Lower Ninth Ward. There are 150 homes on the waiting list
we can presently only rebuild 10 per year. How long could YOU wait to get yer home back?
Even one day of effort on yer part makes a big difference...though skills are an asset, they are not a requirement as some "on-the-job" training will take place. You may be doing anything from planting trees, laying sod to painting and drywalling.
